The Department of the Interior and Local Government conducted the Orientation on the Management of the Dead and the Missing Persons on June 8, 2017 at Agua Frio Garden Resort, Koronadal City. It was attended by DILG Key Officials, P/C/MDRRMOs, and C/MLGOOs.
Regional Director Reynaldo M. Bungubung, CESO IV warmly welcomed the participants as he reiterated the importance of Managing the Dead and the Missing in the Disaster Response of the LGUs and in its overall management on the consequences of disasters. In his words, local government units must ensure that cultural and religious beliefs especially in handling the dead must be observed in preserving their dignity and as respect to the bereaved families.
Engr. Edgar Allan B. Tabell, Chief of DILG-Central Office Disaster Information Coordinating Center (CODIX) oriented the participants on the role of the DILG and the LGUs in MDM being the front liners in Disaster Response. He made the Typhoon Haiyan experience and the threat of the West Valley Fault as reference on why to give attention and include the MDM in the whole DRRM process.
The activity was conducted to ensure that the DILG, through its LGUs, can be able to effectively lead the Management of the Dead and the Missing Cluster as stipulated in the National Disaster Response Plan.
