The members of the Federalism Speaker’s Bureau of the DILG XII were invited by the Philippine Councilors League Sarangani Federation during their Mid-Year Provincial Assembly on July 16-17, 2018 at FB Hotel, Koronadal City.
Federalism Focal Person, LGOO II Relmie Tamson, a Member of Federalism Speaker’s Bureau, introduced the concept of federalism and its difference with the existing unitary form of government while Regional Project Officer on Federalism, Anne Joy Toledo-Sanchez, gave a glimpse on the successes of the federal countries around the globe in bringing basic services to the people.
DILG XII Legal Officer, Atty. Michelle Anne Viejo, presented the emerging models and the salient features of the draft constitution by the Consultative Committee. Specifically, she emphasized the self-executing provisions on anti-political dynasty, block voting for President and Vice President, creation of four equally important federal courts, inclusion of college diploma or its equivalent as one of the qualifications from the President to the members of the House of Representatives, among others.
The local legislators were also informed of the Federalism Roadshow Rally on September 13, 2018, 1PM in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat which will be attended by the framers of the draft federalism constitution.
In the end, the said resource persons from DILG XII encouraged the participants to join all the platforms which aims to gain the insights of the public. In their words, Philippines’ best version of federalism could only be formed through constant and in-depth discussions with the ordinary Filipinos.
