“In vain have you acquired knowledge if you have not imparted it to others.”
These are the words written centuries ago, around 900 BC as a commentary on the Book of Deuteronomy.
Fast forward to the first few weeks of 2021, just in time for the setting of direction for the whole of DILG XII and the same comment about the Book of Deuteronomy was also posed by RD Josephine Cabrido-Leysa, CESO III to fellow RD Julian Jovian Ingeniero of Region VI.
DILG Western Visayas and its LGRRC is the topnotcher when it comes to performance, innovation and consistency, among others. Year in and year out, they stand out from among the rest of LGRRCs in the country.
That ancient quote started a series of developments and RD Leysa’s dream about learning from the masters became a reality on February 3 when the Regional Execom and Mancom, along with its field personnel and Outcome Managers and Focal Persons became the participants to a capacity-building session dubbed as “Strengthening LGRRC: Experiences and Insights from Region VII”. The virtual conference became the venue for the sharing and transfer of knowledge and skills between both regions.
During the virtual meeting, DILG VI ARD Maria Calpiza J. Sardua, CESO IV shared their victories and triumphs, as a testament to their four trophies over the years. She admits to having the desire to ‘create champions after us’ which summarizes the Region’s willingness to share their ‘trade secrets’.
Among the pool of resource speakers were LGOO VI Christian M. Nagaynay, LGOO V Medel M. Espinoza and LGOO II Freda Mae Sorsano. They highlighted the importance of branding, establishing identity and exploring avenues to share knowledge.
Mr. Nagaynay revealed that they wanted to establish their identity as a “knowledge broker” which is fundamentally providing a network for people with various fields of expertise and facilitate learning and knowledge-exchange in the process. Because of their drive and enthusiasm, they were able to tap into almost all sectors of the society, including CSOs, LRIs, and other agencies.
Various social media platforms have been utilized to make sure that each particular group of users are catered to. Subsequently, LGRRC VI has its own social media team and graphic artists but there have been cases when they outsource the production of their materials, like videos or AVPs due to the lack of time to prepare them.
The whole session had been loaded with information and it has helped the attendees to have affirmation about the things that they have done right and they things they should avoid.
RD Leysa, as a response to the information that was shared, encouraged each attendee to explore other means or innovations, on top of what they have received that day. There have been plans to mirror the LGRRC in the field offices to ensure the division of work and ensure a wider coverage and dissemination of stories and plans are underway to encourage the replication of the unit in all the four provincial provinces.
“There is much to be done for LGRRC XII but I know that you have somehow come to gauge where we actually now, compared to the champion LGRRC VI,” RD Leysa said.
In 2020, LGRRC XII was able to move a few notches higher in the nationwide ranking, from somewhere way down to number 7.
“We hope to be in the same league of the champions, and it is not a difficult dream to achieve for Region XII. We have already a few sure steps and we need to increase our pace to catch up,” the Director said during a post-activity meeting.
