The DILG XII, through its Local Government Capacity Development Division, conducted a Training-Workshop on Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment on August 9-13 and 23-27, 2021. The five-day blended training-workshop was conducted in two batches with selected LGUs from the Region. Core Planning Team members of Norala, Sto. Niño, Palimbang, Tantangan and Lake Sebu attended the first batch while representatives of Arakan, Alabel, Banisilan and Libungan attended the second batch.
Resource speakers from Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) XII, DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII and PAGASA-Gensan shared their expertise on basic concepts and the six steps of CDRA namely: (1) Collect and organize climate change and hazard information; (2) Scope the potential impacts of hazards and climate change; (3) Develop the exposure database; (4) Conduct a CCVA; (5) Conduct a DRA; and (6) Summarize findings. The workshop outputs will be critical in mainstreaming DRRM-CCA concerns in the local plans.
Regional Director Josephine Cabrido-Leysa, CESO III, graced the activity and personally thanked the resource speakers and the participants for their time and efforts. She shared that the pilot LGUs were identified by the DILG and DHSUD as those who lack technical assistance on CDRA. She then challenged the LGUs to complete the workshop forms and reminded them that “the outputs are for their community’s benefit”.
The pilot LGUs will be gathered again for the presentation and critiquing of their outputs come November, 2021.
