The Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU) of DILG Regional Office XII managed to capacitate various LGUs in a recently held Seminar Workshop on Detailed Engineering Design for Potable Water System on July 31-August 2, 2019 at Paraiso Verde Hotel, City of Koronadal.
This is in relation to the Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig Para sa Lahat (SALINTUBIG) that aims to provide sufficient, safe and potable water for the entire country. For FY 2019, seventeen (17) LGUs had been recipients of the financial assistance intended solely for the construction of potable water supply system.
During the said workshop, participants were able to identify one of the major causes of challenge in the procurement process which is the delay in the preparation of the detailed engineering design. This was traced mainly to the lack of technical personnel with the basic knowledge in the software used in water system design.
“I will try my best to broaden your understanding on the use of Epanet.” Engr. Richard Burce of the Engineering and Development Corporation of the Philippines assured the attendees. In his three-day lecture, he presented modules relative to the subject of the training workshop. He emphasized that this will help the participants acquire practical skills in the preparation of DED and to deeply understand the concept and requirements on Water Source Confirmation and Hydraulic Analysis of the water distribution system.
Each participant was able to follow the simple steps as outlined by the resource person and all of them were able to proceed with the design of the water system. During the course of the preparation, some issues and concerns had been clarified by the speaker, giving assurance to the participants that they were on the right track about the DED preparation.
